Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia as well as the biggest city in Indonesia. Jakarta is known as multicultural city, with different type of ethnic, religion, culture, language, foods etc. The city is like a mini of Indonesia, a mirror of how are multicultural Indonesia. Thus, because Jakarta people are most likely is immigrants from others region in Indonesia.

The diversity of ethnic and culture have influence in many sector and one of that is the foods. One example of that is how easy to find "Padang food "in Jakarta.

In general, we could said Jakarta offer variety types of foods from other region in Indonesia as well as from neighborhood countries or overseas. 

However, not to forget before many immigrants coming to Jakarta, the original people or ethnic who reside the city is Betawi people. Jakarta is original home of Betawi People. Therefore, if we could classified the original food from Jakarta are "Foods from ethnic Betawi".

1.Kerak Telor

Kerak Telor is one of specialty food from ethnic Betawi in Jakarta. The food are made from white glutinous rice, shredded coconut, eggs, ebi (small prawn), fried shallots, chili, ginger and others. It taste savory and sticky crunchy from glutinous rice. Nowadays, Kerak Telor is difficult to find the existence in Jakarta but it is still sold in few area such as Monas. Kerak Telor Jakarta is different with others province or city which mainly made of Eggs only.

2. Ketoprak

Ketoprak slightly similar to Gado-Gado (Indonesian vegetable salad) however it has different ingredients although using the same dressing "peanut sauce". The food made from vermicelli, tofu, beansprout and lontong/ketupat (Indonesian sticky rice). It is one of popular specialty Jakarta food.

3. Asianan Betawi

Asinan or english known as "pickles" in Indonesia normally made of fruit or vegetables. asinan Betawi is made of vegetables such as cabbage, letuce, beansprout, cucumber, noodle crackers etc. Then, it is add with spicy sour sauce made of chili, vinegar and ebi (small prawn). Asinan Betawi is sell sell in typical restaurant betawi and street vendor in market area in Jakarta.

4. Soto Betawi 

Soto is popular and typical food from Indonesia. There are many variety of Soto dishes in Indonesia. Each city or region have their own typical soto dich. in generally, "Soto are made of beef or chicken and add with coconut milk but few others are  not. Soto Betawi is made of beef meat, coconut milk, potato, tomato nad others ingredients. It have savory taste with creamy coconut milk soup. Soto Betawi is sell in restaurant, food court as well as street vendor in Jakarta area.

5. Nasi Uduk

Nasi Uduk slightly similar with normal white rice however it's different. Nasi Uduk use coconut milk in the process of cooking the rice. Nasi Uduk usually served with other dishes such as shredded omelets or fried egg, tempe, tofu, chicken, prawn, chili sauce and others. It have nice aroma and savory taste. In Jakarta, there are many places sell Nasi uduk such as Nasi Uduk Kebon Kacang. __________________________________________________________________________________

6. Kue Ape

Kue Ape is snack or pastries typical from ethnic Betawi, Jakarta. It has sweet taste with pandanous flavor (green color) and crispy texture in the fringe and soft in middle. It's usually sold by street vendor in market area of Jkarta such as "pasar baru", blok M and etc.

7. Rujak Juhi

In general, rujak is typical Indonesian fruit salad. However, rujak Juhi is not salad made of fruit but juhi or cumi (english; dried squid), cabbage, lettuce, potato, noodle, cucumber, crackers and peanut sauce on top. It has sweet and savory taste. It is usually sell in Betawi restaurant or street vendor in few area of Jakarta ______________________________________________________________________________

8. Mie Kangkung & Bakmi

Mie Kangkung (watercress noodles) is dish typical Betawi, Jakarta. It made of chicken or beef stock add with yellow egg noodles, watercress, meatballs, mushrooms, onions, sweet soy sauce and other ingredients. It have sweet savory taste and thick soup. Similar with Mie kangkung there also Bakmi which one of popular food in  Jakarta. There are many variety and restaurant Bakmi brands in Jakarta such as Bakmi GM, Bakmi Gang Kelinci etc. Bakmi have two types, Bakmi use pork as ingredients and another s only use chicken or beef.

9. Dodol Betawi

Dodol is Indonesian cake or typical candy (sticky sweet) made of palm sugar (gula merah), white sugar, and coconut mild. It is cook traditionally by fire woods for duration 12 hours. Dodol Betawi have three variants flavor; white glutinious, black glutinous and durian. It have sweet taste, brown black color and sticky texture.

10. Akar Kelapa

Akar Kelapa (english; Coconut roots) is typical Betawi snack or pastries made of rice flour, coconut milk etc. The shape slightly looks like coconut roots and some others said its same like churros (spanish donuts). Akar Kelapa has savory, sweet taste and hard crunchy texture. It's usually served in special occasion or events by Betawi People but also sell as one of food souvenir from Jakarta.

BonusRoti Buaya 

Roti Buaya or in english; 'Crocodile bread' is typical cake or sweetened bread from ethnic Betawi. Its usually served in special events or occasion such as weeding of ethnic Betawi.  Ironically,although it was served in wedding occasion it not available for ate only for display as believe by ethnic Betawi it is symbol of loyalty. The taste of Roti Buaya is plain and have hard texture. Nowadays, the bread is difficult to find the existence or neither sold openly or largely in any of restaurant or cake shop in Jakarta.
